Máquina do Mundo - Edição Revista e Baralhada is an electronic literature project developed using web technology based on the work Os Lusíadas, by Luís Vaz de Camões. Playing with the ideas of determinism and emergent creation, this work presents a new textual instance on screen, made up of recombined verses that respect the original metric and rhythmic structure (ABABABCC). Readers can interact with this object, changing the rhyme sets and exploring multiple possibilities for poetic reconstruction. The title evokes the episode in Canto X, stanza 80, in which Tétis reveals the ‘World Machine’ to Vasco da Gama, symbolising cosmic order and divine design. This proposal revisits these concepts by creating a hybrid space in which structural predictability coexists with user creativity, challenging interpretations of providentialism, chance and the nature of literary text in the digital age.
